Hello I would like to nominate the Ladnier Knudsen host family for host family of the year.
From the very beginning, my host family welcomed me with warmth and kindness and made me feel at home right away. Their house is a place full of life, with many visits from friends and family. In this home, the idea of “family” is broader—friends are considered part of it as well. Because of that, it was very easy for me to feel included and truly become part of their community.
The children are wonderful—curious, enthusiastic, and always excited for new adventures. Sebastian, quickly laughs and hugs his way into your heart and always finds his own special way to interact with you and share his joy.
My host parents are incredibly flexible and always try to find solutions that work for everyone. Like they told me in our first call Communication is key. They include me in amazing adventures, like trips to West Virginia or visits to the aquarium in Baltimore, but they are equally supportive when I want to make my own plans. They always respect my independence while making me feel welcome to join their family activities. Another wonderful part of living with them is the food—you can always be sure to enjoy delicious, varied meals that bring everyone together. Through them, I have learned not only about American culture, but also about holidays and traditions from all around the world.
What makes them truly special is how much they care. They are always there for me, even when things are difficult. Whether I need help with practical things like getting my driver’s license in Washington, booking flights for my vacation, organizing accommodations in other cities.
Even during more stressful or busy times, they never lose sight of me and my needs. They make a real effort to check in, support me, and make sure I feel comfortable and appreciated. When I was dealing with personal or health-related difficulties, they did everything they could to help me feel better and make sure I was okay.
When I first arrived, it was sometimes difficult for me to find activities and meet new friends. Ciara always made sure to keep me updated about local events and opportunities, and Jason became the best wingman I could have asked for when it came to meeting new people and settling into life here.
And of course, Fiddler the calm and gentle soul of the house always there for some belly rubs.
This family has given me so much more than just a place to live—they have given me a true home, unforgettable experiences, and the feeling of being part of something special. I am incredibly grateful to be part of their family.
