I am writing to nominate our wonderful care professional, Luisa, for the annual Apex Care Professional of the Year award.
Luisa entered our lives during an incredibly difficult time; our family had just suffered a tremendous personal loss, the death of one of our closest and oldest friends, who also lived in our neighborhood. At the time, I was dreading saying goodbye to our then-current Care Professional for many reasons. I was not sure how I was going to onboard someone new during this time of immense grief. I was equally worried about not being emotionally available to a person whom we were supposed to be welcoming into our family. What was supposed to be a happy time felt like the complete opposite.
Looking back on this time, we could not have asked for a better Care Professional to help us through these dark months. Luisa holds a dual degree in Occupational Therapy and Social Work. When I hired her back in the spring, I never could have imagined how much I personally would directly benefit from having a trained Social Worker living in our home. Luisa possesses many positive qualities, but I am most grateful for her incredible sense of empathy and tremendous listening skills. Luisa has an incredible capacity to make people feel so at ease and is extremely easy to talk to. I have felt so supported by her in the short time that we have known each other, and I also consistently see her showing up for her newly made local friends. Whether someone is homesick or having a hard day at work, Luisa is there to provide comfort and support, no matter what time of day or night it is. She is someone who truly cares about the well-being of others.
One of the qualities that really sets Luisa apart from other Care Professionals is her incredible temperament. My son Julian was immediately drawn to Luisa’s calming and laid-back nature. Our lives at home often feel chaotic with our two extremely energetic children, and Luisa’s peaceful presence and level-headedness greatly help Julian with his own emotional regulation. Julian requires a lot of redirection throughout the day and sometimes gets emotionally frustrated. I have never once seen Luisa be impatient with Julian, and her ability to keep calm under pressure is a skill that will benefit her for her entire life. I completely trust Luisa to gracefully handle difficult, never escalating the
situation because of her own emotions. Another quality that we really appreciate about Luisa is her flexibility. She is able to “roll with the punches” easily, which is something that is greatly appreciated by both my husband and me, whose work and travel schedules often change at the last minute.
We are extremely grateful to have matched with Luisa. She is exceptionally easy to manage, is a true team player, and is an absolute pleasure to live with. She really embraces all constructive feedback and implements it into her work. We wish she could stay with us forever, but we know that she has a very bright future ahead of her back in Germany. Any future employer would be extremely lucky to have her join their team.
Thank you for your time and consideration.
