Bearfoot OT | Transforming Lives Through Nature
Bearfoot is an outdoor pediatric occupational therapy practice that addresses social, emotional, motor, and sensory challenges to launch kids into days of joy and success.
They offer outdoor 1:1 therapy sessions, nature-based social groups, and summer camps so your kids can reach their goals and unlock their potential.
Pediatric OT helps kids improve gross motor and fine motor skills, self-regulation, and sensory processing, as well as increasing creativity and imagination!
Bearfoot’s sessions are held in San Francisco (Glen Park Canyon and the Presidio) and San Rafael (China Camp) in rain, shine, warm or cold. All sessions are led by a skilled occupational therapist.
Get to Know the Founder, Marika Austin, MS OTR/L
Marika is a pediatric occupational therapist living and working in San Francisco. After years of working in traditional OT settings, Marika finally decided to take therapy OUTDOORS!
She started Bearfoot OT to help children build skills with nature as the facilitator for real, concrete change. She can now be found working with kids and families outside in parks around the Bay Area.
Marika has a B.A. in African/African American Studies from Dartmouth College and a M.S. in Occupational Therapy from Boston University. She plays competitive ultimate frisbee internationally, and most likely can be found on her bike, running, or trying (and failing) to catch up on podcasts.
Services They Offer
Individual Outdoor Occupational Therapy Session
Bearfoot takes a unique approach to occupational therapy, where we work with your child in the outdoors and provide comprehensive support to equip parents for ongoing carryover.
Nature-Based Social Group
Bearfoot takes these social lessons and practices their application through outdoor nature play with peers, using the natural environment to help enhance the experience and provide opportunities for creative, problem-solving, sensory-rich fun!
Summer Camp
Bearfoot camps provide a supportive, small-group therapeutic environment for kids to have an awesome camp experience outdoors! Through a focus on peer play, social learning, and building self-regulation skills, Bearfoot offers a camp option that can provide your kid with the small group support they need to succeed at camp.
