Dr. Stephen Shore

“The potential of autistic people is unlimited, just like with everyone else.”

As  a toddler, Stephen Shore was struck with what he now describes as  ‘the  Autism bomb’, which, for most people at that time, would have meant  a  life sentence in an institution.  His path however was one that would  defy the expectations of that time.  Through extensive support that  would have seemed ground breaking for the  mid 1960s, he became verbal  by the age of 4, and continued to go from  strength to strength.

An autistic professor of special education at Adelphi University, he has written the books that include: College for Students with  Disabilities, Understanding Autism for Dummies, Ask and Tell, and Beyond  the Wall.  Currently, he serves on the board of Autism Speaks,  and is one of the first two autistic board members in its history,   looking to improve the potential of those on the autism spectrum. He  once headed the Asperger’s Association of New England and was on the  board of the Autism Society of America.

Dr. Stephen Shore joins us at the Autism Summit by apexINSPIRE April 20th-21st to present his topic: “The 4 A’s of Autism: Awareness, Acceptance, Appreciation, and Action as a Pathway to Fulfilling and Productive lives.”
